The modern attention span be counted in seconds rather than minutes so the window envelope off opportunity for a piece of Direct Mail is extremely short.
Intervention
Flicked past at first glance and you’re binned. Opened but overlooked, ripped to shreds. Read but discounted, same result. From first intervention, through engagement into action the reader must be hooked and never let go.
Engagement
Luckily for us the New Statesman has plenty of things to say that are difficult to ignore. We coined the line, “open discussion every week”, and over a series of DM campaigns drew people to the magazine with scoops, controversy and cheek.
Action
The subscription numbers kept on rising and with every extra reader the magazine improved its standing and extended its influence.
