5 top finds #32 »
Doggie paddling, record breaking crowdfunding, tech sings the blues, food art and what's wrong with technology blogging. It's 5 top finds...
1. Underwater dogs
Think pet photography can be a bit boring? We did too – until we saw Seth Castell's work with some canine friends in a swimming pool. Pure genius!
2. Kickstarter goes seven figures (twice)
Last week, disruptive crowdfunding platform Kickstarter (where people pledge money to support creative projects) made history. They had their first ever project, the Elevation Dock, reach $1,000,000 in pledges. Four hours later, Double Fine Adventure broke the $1M barrier – shortly after reaching the project's $400,000 funding goal in just 8 hours. The Kickstarter blog has the details...
3. My printer is a singer
It's not every day you hear an HP printer and a hard drive(!) cover The Animal's hit single 'The House of the Rising Sun' from 1964.
4. Hirst light sliced
We're in love with 'Low-Commitment Projects', the collaborative project between two American artists Brittany Powell and Tae Kitakata. The 'Sandwich Artist' is definitely a tasty treat!
5. It's not about the pageviews
With the slow death of print media, digital journalists/bloggers are having to pick up the pace of publishing content online – more pageviews bring more advertising revenue.
However, quantity does not always mean quality, as ex-professional blogger MG Siegler discusses in this insightful post.

Hoop Associates' work with Bupa »
We've recently completed part of our ongoing design and print work for the corporate communication team over at Bupa. We thought we'd show how we could do something similar for you.
We were approached by Bupa, providers of worldwide private health insurance and care services, to design two corporate brochures. We've so far designed both "Who Cares? Funding adult social care over the next decade" [PDF] and "What works abroad? Evaluating the funding of long-term care: International perspectives" [unpublished].
Having been presented with the relevant copy, we designed the booklets whilst paying close attention to Bupa's corporate guidelines. We created clean and engaging brochures using a grid-based layout, Bupa's colour palette and specific Bupa photography.
During the design phase, we worked closely with Bupa's communication officers to ensure these booklets were aimed at the correct audience and provided the necessary information in an easily accessible and digestible manner.
Kevin Mochrie, Head of Communications, Bupa Care Services said:
"Hoop helped me to meet a challenging deadline, produce a good product and stay within budget – thanks to the team's friendly can-do attitude".
If you'd like Hoop to design you a corporate brochure - or even you'd just like a chat about our design and print capabilities, why not get in touch or try our Free Fridays offer?

2. Social Media Strategy in 60 Seconds
Nice post on NextWeb on how to get out of the blocks with social media. It's more execution than strategy but it's got some useful tips nevertheless.
