  • User research uncovers golden nuggets »

One key question in our user surveys generates a more impassioned and insightful response than anything else.

"What features or functions would irritate you?"

The answers are helping us build up a clear picture of the frustrations that users experience online.

    Out in front

What is defining the internet now is the user experience. As people better understand what to expect from a website they start to define good and bad user experience more effectively. And they become very clear about what they do and don't like.

    Devil in the detail

As the comments from our user surveys show it's the details of the experience that matter. This can have a deep influence, not only on the immediate impressions and the decisions made whilst browsing, but also on the more lasting perceptions of the brand.

    Stand out

Many successful online ventures have put user experience at the forefront of their business models. A good user experience is a clear differentiator in an overcrowded market, one that can pay dividends in longer term brand appreciation as well as in immediate sales.

    Digging deeper

User research helps us understand the needs and expectations of a certain set of users for specific projects but also keeps us abreast of the changing ways people behave online. By listening to what people say, we can make informed choices and decisions when designing user centred websites.

  • Man Booker revelations at V&A »

As the Man Booker Prize 2008 shortlist is announced to the world an exhibition celebrating the Booker's 40th year opens.

Chair of judges for 2008, Michael Portillo, unveiled the six shortlisted books at the Victoria and Albert Museum and kicked off an international debate on air, on television and online. Check the titles and writers and join the discussion on the website.

The shortlist announcement coincides with the opening of, The Booker 40 at the V & A - celebrating the 40th anniversary of the world's most important prize for fiction.

The exhibition includes every book which has won since 1969, as well as many of the shortlisted works. It also includes displays on the design of book jackets, posters, promotional materials plus a selection of the unique book bindings made for winning and shortlisted writers since 1991.

The original trophy created by Jan Pienkowski will also be on show, as will the new trophy specially commissioned for the 40th anniversary and designed by Hoop.

This is the first time that this collection of archive material has been put on public display. Some of the content has come from private individuals as well as from The Booker Prize Archive which is housed at Oxford Brookes University. The exhibition runs until 17 May 2009.
